The Virginia Omicron Zeta Chapter of Pi Lambda Phi received its charter in 1984. The founding fathers of VA OZ were Lance Altizer, Mike Blow, Chris Miller, Glenn Moser, and Fred Villegas. Both Glenn and Lance were brothers of Pi Lambda Phi at other universities before transferring to Virginia Tech. Before becoming Pi Lambda Phi, the two ran their own official student organization called Club Roundball. The name Club Roundball was chosen due to many of the men playing intramural basketball together. The early members of Club Roundball are considered the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma pledge classes of the VA OZ chapter. Dr. Joseph Pitt, Head of the Philosophy Department at Virginia Tech, heard how Club Roundball was attempting to colonize on campus as Pi Lambda Phi. As a Pi Lam alumnus of William and Mary, Dr. Pitt helped during the process of getting the chapter recognized and became VA OZ’s first Faculty Advisor.
